Formed in 2010, the band is fronted by husband and wife Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi and included some of their backing band members. His debut album, Revelator (2011), won the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Blues Album. History The Tedeschi Trucks Band was founded in 2010 after Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi decided to merge their respective bands, to spend more time together with their children and to work together in their home recording studio. Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi had toured together in 2007 under the name Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi's Soul Stew Revival with songs from their solo careers, while the Tedeschi Trucks Band has focused on playing original songs. In late 2009 after announcing a break from activity by the Derek Trucks Band and the Susan Tedeschi Band, the pair began composing new material, working in their home studio in Jacksonville with fellow musician friends. Their first concert took place on April 1, 2010 at the Savannah Music Festival and later the group played at the Crossroads Guitar Festival organized by Eric Clapton, the Fuji Rock Festival and other festivals and concerts. The collaboration between Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi has also extended to other artists. Ted Pecchio, Dave Monsey, and George Porter, Jr. took their places for the rest of the 2012 performances. On May 29, 2013, the band announced that Eric Krasno of Soulive and Lettuce would perform as bassist for 2013 through August 15, except from July 19 to 24, when Tim Lefebvre would take over. Lefebvre was announced as the band's new permanent bassist on October 19, 2013. In 2013 they were nominated for the Blues Music Awards in the 'Band' and 'Rock Blues Album' categories. On May 15, 2013, the band announced their second studio album entitled Made Up Mind.12 Released on August 20, 2013, it had positive reviews. Rolling Stone noted that the album "mixed equal parts Stax and Muscle Shoals with no dilution of either." On January 26, 2015, they announced that they would play Red Rocks Amphitheater with Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and Doyle Bramhall II. In the summer of 2015 they went on an extensive tour, along the same lines, called the Wheels of Soul tour. At the 2015 Lockn' Festival the band honored the legacy of the Joe Cocker and the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and album with a tribute concert that was one of the main acts of the festival. The fourth studio album Signs was released on February 15, 2019 on Fantasy Records and on Concord. On January 9, 2019, the band announced tour dates through August 2019. Signs was voted 'Favorite Blues Album' by AllMusic. Layla Revisited (Live at LOCKN') was announced on May 7, 2021. The album is a one-off live recording of Derek & The Dominos' album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs performed in its entirety with Trey Anastasio. Recorded on August 24, 2019 at the LOCKN' Festival in Arrington, VA, the album was released on July 16, 2021. In downtime during the pandemic, the band got together in the studio to write and record a host of new songs for a future studio album. As recording moves toward an expected 2022 release, the album is shaping up to be a far-reaching concept project.
